Anything but

If you have ever had a 4-year-old, or a 1-year-old, or if you have ever lived with Will, then you know that while we may be a bit boring medically right now, our day to day lives are anything but boring. With Anya fully recovered from the chemo, she has a lot of energy for life.  Unfortunately, that sometimes means waking at 4:30 am (seriously, is this my child?)  Many of her days are filled with school, but her favorite activity right now is dance class.  She looks forward to Thursdays in a single-minded way that may only be possible when you are four and willing to tell everyone you meet exactly what Thursday means.  Tap class.  Another favorite thing to do right now for Anya is experiments.  She prefers to do these with her dad, because, as she told me last week, "We are scientists!  We investigate and we make the hypothesis."

While I like to think that I could make a very good scientist and make the hypothesis just as splendidly as Will, she does have a convincing argument.  By the end of this semester, Will will be finished with his degree, which means that not only does Anya declare that he is a scientist, but the University of Colorado will as well.  He has already given his exit talk, his defense is scheduled, and now is the time to put everything together.  Nothing about that is boring.

Do you want to know someone else that is not boring?  Reese.  Can you tell what her latest hobby is?  She adores paint, and would much rather paint her hands, belly, and hair than paper.  This girl so rarely slows down that I have both heard her talk in her sleep and seen her sign in her sleep.  She has strong opinions about what clothes she will and will not wear (evidently this is something that runs in the family), and she insists on changing her clothes multiple times a day.

On top of all that we have Avery.  The transition to being "dog people" has gone relatively smoothly.  She seems to like living with us, and we like having her around.  She gives me an excuse to get out and go for walks in the cold and dark, which is something I haven't done since having kids.

The best part of all of this activity is that none of it has to do with oncologists or ophthalmologists.  We are nearing the end of our full month with no doctor appointments.  It has felt wonderful to be busy with life again, and not a single day in this month has been boring.
