Big day - in 3 parts

Tomorrow is December 10th - a much awaited big day.

Part 1
Anya will meet with a new eye doctor at the Anchor Center in Denver.  This is not to replace our current ophthalmologist, but to add to the growing list of doctors.  This optometrist will do an hour long vision screening with Anya and then should be able to give us an idea of how she is currently using her vision and how she will use it in the future.  We are just starting to learn about monocular vision and what it will mean for Anya for the rest of her life.  Hopefully, this visit will give us some more information on that front.  That is, of course, assuming that she will have monocular vision for the rest of her life, which may still be a big assumption at this point.  That brings us to...

Part 2
Exam under anesthesia with our ophthalmologist at Children's Hospital.  I have written this before and I am sure that I will write it again - the anxiety for Will and I before these exams is enormous.  Will this be the day that he tells us the tumors are recurring?  Will this be the day that he tells us her right eye must be removed?  Or will we be lucky enough once again to hear "stable?"

Part 3
I am thankful that the surgery to remove her port was able to be scheduled at the same time as her EUA. Although she will be under anesthesia for longer, I still think of it as one less time going under.  It is one less time that she can't eat for the 8 hours prior to surgery or drink for those last 2 tiresome hours when she really needs a nap, but doctors and nurses keep filing by to listen to her heart or ask question after question.  It is one less trip to the 2nd floor at Children's.  And when we bring her home tomorrow, she will be just Anya - no extra hidden medical pieces inside of her.

Thank you for keeping Anya in your thoughts for this big day.  We will take all the extra hope, love, and luck we can get.
