ototoxic drugs

On Tuesday of this week, Anya and I were back down to The Children's Hospital for a hearing evaluation.  Two of the three chemo drugs she received are ototoxic drugs, which means they can damage the ear and hearing.  She had a baseline hearing test immediately before starting chemotherapy, and this week she had a follow up visit.  I am happy to report that all went well.  Her hearing is within the normal range for all pitches.  The audiologist that tested Anya's hearing was fantastic, and Anya was completely happy to "play games" with her for an hour and get some extra special attention.  If only every visit to the hospital could be so much fun.  Unfortunately, these drugs can have long term effects so she will continue to have audiograms at the Children's Hospital yearly until she is in public school full time and has her hearing tested there.
