Tumors

These are pictures of the tumors in Anya's eyes taken at her last EUA on December 10, 2010.  Since you may not be as familiar with these kind of pictures as I am, I will take a minute to explain.  The top picture is her right eye, and the shiny white mass is the tumor.  This tumor responded well to chemotherapy and shrunk in size significantly.  To the left of it is a cloudy white area which is the detached retina.  The picture on the bottom is her left eye.  The tumor is front and center there and the black marks all around it are scars from the laser.  Knowing that those scars are essentially from burns makes it look, to me, extremely painful, but Anya always recovers easily from the laser treatments.  That large white area is the area that may still be viable.

Yesterday Anya had an appointment in the ophthalmologist's office to check on the tumors - it wasn't quite the way we had hoped to spend Will's birthday, yet it is somehow fitting for the way this year has gone.  At least there was good news to be had as a birthday present.  The tumors remain stable and there is no new growth.  In fact, they look very much like they did when he took these pictures a few weeks ago.  The tumor in the left eye continues to respond slightly to the laser treatment, so he plans to use more laser at her next EUA in January.
