Riding on

This girl just doesn't stop.
And she doesn't have to.  Nearly two months have passed since we received the good news in Philadelphia that Anya does not need further treatment.  We were told to go back to see the ophthalmologist here in three months.  After a year of seeing him at least monthly, I was the one that didn't feel comfortable waiting three months.  That is one fourth of a year.  The past year has taught me just how much can happen in that amount of time.  Thankfully, our doctor not only is wonderful at dealing with kids, but he understands frightened parents too.

We saw him today and there are no changes in Anya's eyes.  Both tumors are stable.  Anya sat in his chair by herself today, and patiently looked in every direction while he got an excellent look into her eyes.  The biggest struggle was Reese, who was exclaiming, "No...doctor...touch...eyes...Anya...no."

I needed the relief that came from this clinic visit - to know that yes, Anya can be seen in office and not under anesthesia, to learn that her eyes are stable, to be reassured that we are, somehow, moving into the next stage of this journey.  I am now okay to wait three months for another visit.  If things continue to go as well as they have been, quarterly visits to the ophthalmologist is all Anya will need.

She can just keep riding on...no appointments in sight.  This summer is ever so different than last.
