Glasses

When we found out that Anya needed to start wearing glasses, we knew immediately that they would be either red or purple.  Purple it is!  And don't they look great?  She especially likes the tie dye strap to go with them.  A girl always needs more accessories, right?  Just like her favorite book character, Fancy Nancy.
The glasses are not for vision, but rather for protection.  Since she has just one good eye now, we want to make sure nothing happens to it.  The ophthalmologist said that she should wear them during any "risky" behavior.  Risky behavior for eyes is somewhat different than what you may otherwise classify as risky.  Examples are: she should wear them in the car (in the case of an accident), while baking if using an electric mixer, while playing sports, and the biggest risk for her right now is preschool.  This point became crystal clear to me the day after the doctor recommended glasses.  We were at the park and one of her friends/classmates came up to her with a giant stick pointed right at her face, saying "look at my big stick.  It is my gun."
Her vision in her left eye is 20/25, so the glasses have no prescription.  She likes them well enough so far.  She doesn't always want to wear them, but she understands that she needs them for school.  Thankfully we haven't had any crazy flying electric mixer accidents in our house, although with the weather getting cooler it is time to bake more...perhaps we should get a pair for Reese too.
