What chemotherapy looks like

8:30 put numbing cream on port site, cover with press and seal (sticks like tape, but comes off easier)
9:00 leave for hospital
10:00 arrive at hospital and head up to floor 7: the infusion unit
10:15 intake nurse takes vitals
10:45 port access - although very nervous for this, it went quite smoothly
blood draw via port to check electrolytes
fluids via port
11:00 take anti-nausea meds followed by gummi bear chaser. The oncologist and nurses were so excited about this that they already have plans to buy gummi bears and have them in the unit.
11:05 chemo drug #1 via IV push in port. Push means it takes about one minute.
11:10 chemo drug #2
play in playroom, talk with doctors and nurses and, in general, charm everyone in sight
11:30 order lunch, play more
12:30 eat lunch, watch signing time movie
12:35 chemo drug #3
1:30 read books, feel sleepy
2:00 chemo drugs finished, fluids
2:15 fluids disconnected, leave with port accessed - this means there is a small tube coming out of her chest, where it goes into her body is covered with gauze and tape
2:30 eat ice cream while waiting for Nana and Reese to come back
2:55 sleep in car
3:45 arrive home, open fun mail, paint Nana's toenails, relax
5:00 play doctor
6:00 eat a few bites of dinner, mouth starts to hurt
6:45 no bath due to port being accessed, play doctor instead
7:30 get ready for bed
7:55 vomit
8:00 feel much better, take anti-nausea meds with a chocolate chaser, take tylenol because mouth still hurts
8:30 sleep
