Last day of school 2010

In the midst of all of this, Anya is growing up. She had her last day of school for the year yesterday. Watching her head off to school with her backpack and party dress on, I couldn't help but think of her first day of school (2nd picture). It really doesn't feel that long ago, but a lot has happened since then - new sister arriving and now cancer being some of the biggest events. The small events add up, though, and now she is singing new songs, beginning to write her own name, becoming more independent, showering on her own (with supervision, don't worry), reading letters off of signs everywhere we go, and everyday becoming more of her own beautiful self. I am so proud of her.

Today we went to the hospital in Longmont to get Anya's CBC or complete blood count. Anya was so prepared for it that she brought her own bandaid! She was set to get a finger poke, which unfortunately is not common at this hospital, so they had to do it twice. Anya didn't cry and was more forgiving with the ladies who were taking her blood than I was. As we left I said, "we'll be back in two weeks" and they claimed they would get it figured out by then. Her nurse called later in the day to say that her blood counts look good. There are all sorts of things they look at, which have all dropped, and that is to be expected with chemo. The important thing for now is that they are all still within the normal range.

Good news for that! What an amazing girl! Love the photos. If I can figure out how to print it, I will put it up on the office whiteboard. Everyone asks about Anya... She is well loved by those she knows and those she will never meet. The kids in my class love to catch me looking at your blog and see her picture. They pray for her in our daily prayers...

Anya- congratulations on finishing the school year! That is very exciting. Call me when you get a chance and tell me about some of the fun things you are going to do this summer. Tell your mom that she should bring you for a road trip up to Idaho. You can eat lots of potatoes up here. You could even go meet our friends pigs! (That's where pork comes from.)
