At Anya's last MRI, we found out that there is a "bright spot" on her pituitary gland. We received a copy of the radiology report and that is the exact terminology used. At this point there are a lot of unknowns about what that means and not very many knowns. Apparently this bright spot has been showing up on her scans for two years now, but this last oncologist was the first one to mention it to us. She did so in passing, merely to say that the bright spot is unchanged. That, at least, is good news. Since there have been concerns about Anya's growth, the oncologist consulted with the neuroradiologist who said that there could be a link. Anya has now earned herself a referral to Childrens' endocrinology department.

Clearly, we don't like any kind of spots in her brain, and that is why we feel a need to pursue this. The oncologist feels confident that this is not related to her retinoblastoma. It remains a concern as well as a frustration that two previous oncologists failed to tell us about the spot. On top of that, Anya is becoming less willing and less agreeable with each visit to a doctor. She has an appointment in April where she will have a full physical exam and likely some blood tests. At that point, we will hopefully know more.
