A home run

Sometimes the simplest words are the ones that can melt you and bring you to tears. After surgery, Anya came home to some cozy gifts and yummy food. It was an exhausting day for us on many fronts and reading this sweet card brought tears to my eyes. "Good job on being brave." Yes, she was brave, she is so very brave.

The surgeon could not have been more pleased with how surgery went. He was able to take the old silicone string out and clear out all the scar tissue. He was then able to thread the new string in with great ease. He thought that he would have to open up her eyelid, but that was not necessary. His intern who was observing remarked on how smoothly everything went, and his response was, "She deserves it." In addition to that, he felt he was able to raise the lid to the ideal spot. To raise it too high would allow some of the white to show above the iris,  and that, he explained, is more noticeable than a droopy eyelid. He was able to get her lid to curve right along the top of the iris. He said it was a home run.

Anya has not been back to school yet. Each passing day she heals more and acts more like herself. The swelling is going down and the bruising is appearing more. Her body is working overtime to heal and it is exhausting her.
