While the last post talked much about Anya's upcoming surgery, the part about today's visit that had me most anxious was seeing the retina specialist. He is the one that checks on the tumor. Today he declared it, "absolutely stable." He checked Reese's eyes as well, which were clear of tumors. Fabulous news all around.

Reese is now older than Anya was at diagnosis and the chances of her getting Retinoblastoma are close to zero, so this was her last visit. Anya will continue to be seen twice a year at least until she is ten. For many kids with Rb, seven is the age when they taper off visits even more, but since Anya was old at diagnosis - 3 years, 8 months, when most children in the U.S. are diagnosed between nine and eighteen months of age - he wants to continue to follow her for awhile. From what I have learned of other doctors that treat Rb, Anya's doc watches kids longer and more closely, which works absolutely fine for us.
