Swimmer

If you were to ask Anya, the most important news we heard at her appointments last week is that she can swim again!  In a very adult manner, she explained to Dr. D that we are going to Mexico in May, and would she please be able to swim there?  He thought that was a good idea.  He even said that she could swim now.  He added, "because we are going to go in there and clean it up anyway."  Perhaps not the most sensitive comment.

What they will be cleaning up anyway is her socket and the exposure.  The exposure has not been seen by anyone since before she received her prosthesis in early January.  He may have wanted to take her prosthesis out at this last visit, but Anya explained that she would "probably cry and kick and scream."  Apparently that was enough of a deterrent, so he said he would just wait until June.  What a softie - and I think Anya knew that about him, too.  His plan in June, though, is to fix the exposure during the eyelid surgery.  From what I understand that means cleaning the tissues and likely adding a few stitches.  I guess in the meantime if a few extra pool chemicals get in there, he isn't too worried.  And that makes for a very happy swimmer.
