What should be

This smiley thing turns one tomorrow.  She has brought so much joy into our lives in the past year, especially at times when we have most needed it.  Tomorrow should be a day dedicated to Reese, to happiness, to birthday cake and ice cream and a gigantic mess.  We should spend the day reminiscing about her near birth in the car and subsequent birth in the ER.  We should laugh about how her dramatic entry into this world may merely be foreshadowing of what is to come.  We should remember all the dinners that we couldn't eat together due to Reese crying and think of just how much has changed.  We should reflect over a year of great growth in one human and how that has resonated with her entire family.  We should look forward to what will become of Reese this next year and get excited about all the possibilities life has for her.

All of those things will happen at some point in the upcoming days, but, sadly, tomorrow has other plans for us.   August 27th happens to be the fourth Friday of the month, which means it is eye treatment day, and Anya, Will, and I will be in the OR at Children's Hospital while Reese stays and plays with her grandparents.  There will be plenty more details to share about that, but for now I want something to be just for Reese.

Reese, your sister, dad, and I are so very thankful for the smiles and laughter you have showered on us in the past months.  We love you very much and wish you the happiest of birthdays.
