First course of treatment done

Day two of chemotherapy today - I suppose I can feel a bit of relief that the first course is over, but I know the worst is yet to come in terms of how she will deal with the drugs in her system throughout the next month. We certainly are all happy that we don't have to go back to the hospital for awhile.
Anya's chemotherapy schedule will be two days of chemo and then 3 weeks 5 days off. She will do six courses, or six months. The first day is six hours, which includes time for her port to be accessed, then to get fluids and anti-nausea meds before the chemo drugs. She gets three chemo drugs on the first day. The second day is only two hours because she gets only one chemo drug. The drugs come through a bag that looks just like an IV bag, they are hooked up to a pole that she can either ride on or pull with her so she is free to move around. Today we spent some time in the play room. Will found the train set and made a really nice loop-de-loop track, and then we were all disappointed when we couldn't find any trains. I have a feeling trains might be popular around there and might not make it back to the playroom.
The disappointment didn't last long as Anya was presented with so many surprises today. The first was from her oncologist, Dr. A, who already learned how much Anya has loved playing doctor. She made up a bag of doctor supplies for us to take home to play with. Next came Anya's beads for life. She gets a necklace and will receive different beads for the various treatments/stages/physical challenges that she has to endure. Lastly was a penguin shaped suitcase literally overflowing with toys. It came from the Gabby Krause Foundation - Gabby is a girl that survived cancer and learned that kids need some things to entertain them while waiting. There is a lot of waiting, and now there will be a lot of entertaining. We were all in shock by the generosity.
Anya is planning on going to school tomorrow. I hope that it will be a really boring day around here.
