Last MRI!

On Thursday, Anya had a routine MRI. This was the first time she did it without anesthesia. She was amazing and was able to stay still throughout the hour-long scan. Afterward she was proud of herself and so happy that she did not feel nauseous from the anesthesia. It was a huge success.

The good news did not end there, as she saw the oncologist later in the day who reported that the MRI was clear and that Anya does not need to have further MRIs of the brain. She will continue to have annual check-ups in oncology. Since Anya's cancer is caused by a genetic mutation, she is at risk for secondary cancers. Because of this, there will come a time when she will have annual full-body MRIs as a screening procedure. There is no clear protocol on exactly when to start these, but it will likely be when she is a teenager.
