Stink Bug Party
Last week we had a baking party. A dog biscuit baking party! We invited five of Anya's friends over to help make dog biscuits for The Stink Bug Project. This is the organization that gave us our dog, Avery, who, as Reese proclaims daily, "is the best dog in the world." The family who started the organization make and sell dog biscuits in order to raise money to buy dogs for kids with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. I now have a greater appreciation for just how many dog biscuits they have made.
We sold bags to many of the bakers at the party and are also selling them at Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital. We met some of the staff on Friday who were all incredibly supportive of Anya and the biscuits. Almost immediately, 9 of the 10 bags we brought in were snatched up by the staff.
Anya has always wanted to help others. This seemed like an easy service project to begin with. She and her peers all seemed to love the baking, but more than that, they understood that it was for a deeper purpose. At just five and six years old, these kids all know the word "cancer" and understand a bit of what that has meant for Anya as well as other people in their lives. Additionally, they each have a dog (or two) and therefore understand how that bond can help someone who isn't feeling well. It was definitely a success and we may just have to do it again.
